Question - will this process leave ldev2 with its current name and status, or will I have to do some more work to bring it in?
Will an install scratch all data off both drives ? I think so.

John,

The answer is, it depends.   :-)

If both ldevs are in one volume set, then, the system will see it, as ldev 2, but will not mount it in the current volume set.  You will need to go into volutil and SCRATCHVOL 2, then re-add ldev 2 to the new system volume set.

NEWVOL mpexl_system_volume_set:member 2

So yes, you will lose all the data.

IF however, Ldev2 is in it's own private volume, say MY_PRIVATE_VOLUME, then no you will not lose the data.  But you will have to rebuild the accounting structure and pointers on the System volume to point to your private volume.

-Craig

Subject: Re: question about 928's

Me again..

Our 928 in Houston has died with an Ldev 1 failure. External people have done an install from a borrowed SLT (7.0), and brought ldev 2 into the system domain. Some other aspects of this set up are not working for them, so  I will be on my way there Sunday. I propose to do an install of a 7.5 CSLT cut on a 928 .

Question - will this process leave ldev2 with its current name and status, or will I have to do some more work to bring it in?

Thanks for any hints. Its been a while now since I last did this, and my brain has been turned off.

john
