James, you are a gentleman and scholar. I have know you for many years and you are a man of integrity. This applies to all of the HP engineers I have talk to and meet since 1983. Just to numerous to name here. A very sincere thank you from myself and all the HP computer operators, programmers, system managers, directors, all who had any interface with IT. You guys have saved my bacon so many times and then taught things and ohh well just thanks guys.

families, many who were also impacted by the decisions evolving around the
HP3000 and yet still respond to questions posted here (for the most part on
their personal time).

Yea, the "Printer and Soldiers" video is great, it has surfaced several
times on the news groups already and we at HP can never get enough of it.
Ask the guys at Dell, they love the burning laptop video that their
customers kick them with when the opportunity arises.

I am sure I will hear from some folks that I shouldn't take it so
personally, but the ongoing badgering of HP on the news groups is an added
toll to engineers who constantly face the threat of WFR (Work Force
Reduction) and at the same time are attempting to recycle their careers as I
know many of you are. I am not sure why HP employees continue to contribute
and participate in this venue; my only guess is that they also care about
the HP3000 and the customers that they have had life-long relationships
with.

Since I moved to the left-coast I have been reaching out to my inner
liberalness and now I am asking for "world peace" or at least that we treat
each other with greater respect (Oop's I guess I just started a political
thread and didn't label it off-topic - I will do better).

----------

I do sincerely wish everyone I have had the opportunity to work with in the
past and in the future (if you celebrate the holidays): That you and your
family have a safe and happy holiday season & new years, no matter your
religion, nationality or other.

Thank You Tracy for the virtual-turkey, I enjoyed sharing it with my family.

Regards,
  James Hofmeister
P.S. My Ideals are my own, certainly not my employers.
