1:  Performance -- I've read that it is more "A" class, not "N" class, but
is that closer to A400 or dual-core A500? (asking as an A500-200-14).
1A:  Which which processor?  Since it was stated that it needs a Core-i7, I
supposed the best choice would be the 2600 or 2600K ?  Or does it run faster
on a 990x ?
1B:  Would a good SSD get you beyond A-class ?

The first release will only be a single processor.   I have not completed performance test.   My guess is an SSD would only really help at boot time.   My bet is there would be some slowness to the emulated SCSI interface.    Only time will tell.

2:  If your PC dies (anything that would have been a reload situation on a
real HP3000) do you get up & running faster on the Stromasys than a reload
would have taken on a real HP3000?  I hope/guess that it is faster and that
all you have to do is restore the 18 gigabyte file (or whatever size) from
your handy daily PC full backup onto whatever other Core-i7 box you have
lying around, and maybe tweak a couple settings..... but approx how many
settings?
2B: For file-by-file backup/restore, I suppose we still need our old
MPE-style full backup?
2C:  Is best practice then 2 daily backups?  An MPE backup in case you
delete the wrong file and a PC backup to give quicker recovery if the PC
dies ?
2D: Can data loss if the PC dies be reduced from 1 day to minutes or seconds
if you have some fancier-than-overnite real-time backup software on the PC
??  (sorry, don't know much about that side of the PC backup universe).
2E: Has it been tested with PC software that automagically backs up changed
files on the fly?  Does said software go crazy if a 18 gigabyte file gets
changed several times a second?

The Emulator works with VMWare, and snapshots are supported.

3:  Are private volumes & big disk arrays supported??  (Although we don't
need them here -- does anybody with an A-class do that stuff??)

I have not tested private volumes yet, do to an issue with the SCSI interface.   But I intend too.     Yes, I do private volumes on and big disk arrays (VA7410, XP1024, XP128, XP12000's on A-class'es, everyday.

4: Is their MPE 7.5 current on patches??

Yes
