Thanks for a simply put, eloquent post.  I particularly agree with
accepting people for their contributions.

It is very sad that the opponents of gay marriage try to obscure the issue
of gay couples that only want the same rights and privileges enjoyed by het
couples (some of the more importants you mentioned in your post).  They do
it by saying that once we allow gay marriage, what's to keep us from
letting men marry boys, etc, which is hogwash.  The spin (and right-wing
lies) has only just begun.
