I heard he was given a hard time getting a passport
because he could not prove his birth.  Having been born
on an Indian Reservation with no records.

The way I heard it was more interesting than I
relate it here.  Accchh.  Maybe someone has a better
version.

For the record, it was an Oklahoman named Will Rogers who said, I never
discuss politics or religion. This is the same Will Rogers who said that he
never met a man he didn't like, that we was not a member of any organized
political party, he was a Democrat, and that he was unimpressed by the kind
of preachers who preached from notes, if they couldn't remember their own
sermons, why should he?

So the irony of the first statement should be evaluated in this context. Of
course, Will Rogers was a lot more interesting or at least more amusing
discussing politics and religion than most of us...
