Duane, Bill Lancaster and others have brought some needed perspective to
this debate. Yes, it probably makes sense for HP to finally kill MPE, and
each of us will eventually benefit from the skills gained as we help our
companies move to the post-MPE world. Still, Ray makes a very valid point.
MPE has been a hard-sell for a while now, because those
management-by-magazine types have been told that proprietary = evil.
Several IT types have stuck their necks out to persuade their companies to
invest in an MPE-based solution, knowing it was a risky position, but
bolstered by HP's assurances that MPE wasn't going away. Those people are
undoubtedly feeling betrayed now, and wondering whether they will be the
scapegoats when upper management receives the bad news.

I disagree. They have established a relationship with a vendor
who will take them to the next platform for their application.

People usually buy HP e3000 applications for the application,
not the platform. In fact, ISV's have usually had an uphill
battle selling because of the HP e3000.

The ones who will struggle are those who have in-house staffs
who are not able to learn/adapt to another operating environment.
