James,

I can't answer to the internal terminator, as I have not attempted (as you
are doing) to replace an internal drive. However, I can state that the
internal drives are on the same path as the external SE SCSI connection
coming off the (for lack of a better term) MFIO.  In your secription, you
note that there were no internal terminators, but you do state you have
added one internally. I might try to remove the internal one and insure
that the SE SCSI external connector is terminated. Try this and see if that
works.

Bear with me on this.  Hardware is not a particular strenght of
mine.  The 918LX arrived with no internal or external terminators.
The drive that was originally in the cage was an HP branded
ST1917N.

I have added an external scsi terminator and an internal terminator
(using a 68 to 50 pin adaptor as I do not have access to a native
50 pin internal terminator) on the last ribbon cable connector but
the error remains the same.
