Such comments tickle me greatly. In my other life, I hang out with
scientists, people I really enjoy, who are exploring the cosmos and attempting to save
the planet. When I offer some of my opinions to them, the same ones freely
given here, they often consider me to be somewhat to the right of Attila the Hun.

As an indication of that reaction, at a recent biogeography meeting, one
fellow who proposed a controversial idea said that he'd been called every name in
the book. He'd been called the Anti-Christ. Heck, he'd even been called "a
Republican!"

I've always taken the two reactions, the one I get here and the one I get
there, to indicate that I'm absolutely mainstream, middle of the road,
well-centered.
