Just connecting the transceiver is not sufficient since the card has a set
of jumpers which tell it which media to use. You can however shutdown the
system, power off the system, pull the card, change the jumper and then
reverse the process and have the aui being the media used.

Subject: RJ-45 LAN I/F
We have a HP3000 918LX that is the last remaining Bisync
holdout. I would like to put an RJ45 transceiver on the back of
the console card and do away with the bisync connection. I
am told by our hardware supplier that this is not possible.
I have checked and there definitely is an AUI port on the
console card. So is it, or is it not, possible to change the
bisync I/F to an RJ45?
If so, how does one proceed? In terms that I can gently
wedge home between my supplier's ears of course.
If not, then why not?
Regards,
Jim
