**** For those with websites

Our dealers in Switzerland recently reported trouble accessing our
webpage. He suggested it may be our TTL setting and he was correct.
Our server is on an HP9000 running HP-UX 9.04 and the default setting for
TTL is 30 'hops'. That means that any client more that 30 routers away from
our site would not get the IP packets. A 'traceroute' of his IP address
showed that he was 31 hops away.

For more info on the TTL (Time To Live) problem, check out:
        http://www.switch.ch/switch/docs/ttl_info.html

This site has a downloadable script for altering the value on UX-9.04 but
it didn't work on our system. It did provide the 'adb' commands though for
resetting the TTL value.

I'm not sure what the default setting on the hp3000 httpd server is, but in
HP-UX 10.0 it has been raised to 64.
Does anyone from the 'jazz' crowd know if this will cause problems for the
hp3000 websites?
