Jim asked:

Nope; at least not AFAIK: I just went though this; called the RC:
Even if you have fully configured the "slot" in the HASS enclosure
ahead of time, if the spindle is not there when you boot it doesn't get
recognized during the "MOUNT ALL VOLUMES" part of coming up;
table entries & etc. or whatever don't get made; and you can't "go
back" and do that once you are running (at least not without doing a
lot of heavy Debug magic, if my info is correct (and even then it
may not be possible (???) ) ).

Let's make sure we have our terms straight: In above you said
"add". To me that means fill an empty slot after system has been
booted. If you mean REPLACE a spindle that WAS mounted but
failed while running: *IF* you are running MirrorDisc/iX that is no
problem: Just pull out the bad / suspect spindle, slip in the new
one; and do REPLACEMIRRVOL....

CAUTION CAUTION CAUTION (voice of experience):

If you pull out a drive that you intend to or may reinstall on the same
system **OR** on another system that has a volume set of the same
name: BE SURE to do a SUSPENDMIRRVOL and SCRATCHVOL
on the spindle BEFORE removing it.... Otherwise you will likely have
much "fun" if you stick it back in and the system can still recognize
it as a volume in an existing volume set: Mirror Disc then thinks it
has THREE volumes with same LDEV #.... BZZZZZST !!!!!
