Inna rush again,
Wirt Atmar posted recently that his AICS outfit could sort deal with
data recovery from tape. I don't know if this fits within the perview
of which he was speaking, and he didn't sound really enthusiastic.
However, the offer was there + Wirt's pretty cool....if a little strange.

If it is a CM store tape (from a pre 900 series hp3000 or you used the
TRANSPORT option) you can use GETFILE. If it is an NM store tape I think you
are out of luck. I have been looking for a utility that will work like
GETFILE did and have pushed for the various backup vendors to supply some
method for partial recovery of
damaged tapes, but to no avail. I still highly recommend having a test
system to restore backups onto to verify
their integrity.
