Michael,

I am assuming that when you say you want to allow access to a file to
which a user does not normally have access you mean that the program the
user is running may have access?

<PLUG on>
SAFE file/database access rules let you write a rule for a file (or
group of files based on wildcards) such that you can restrict access to
occur through a specific program (or set of programs). For example,

USER(LEE.COURTNEY) AND ACCESS(R,L) AND PGM(PEEK.PUB.APPL);

would grant LEE.COURTNEY read and lock access but only when using the
PEEK program. By using an access rule to "restrict the interface" you
can grant controlled access which would normally not be allowed through
other utilities such as EDITOR, QUERY, etc. Also works for IMAGE
databases etc. Note - while MPE ACDs are similar to SAFE access rules,
they don't allow program specification (along with a lot of other useful
parameters) etc. so you can't do the above. Call or email for more
details.
<PLUG off>

Regards,

Lee Courtney
