The time resolution for file creation is expected to always exceed one minute.  In other words there will never be less than sixty seconds of time elapsed between the creation of any two files.  (Should have stated this in the original post)

I like your idea of a counter to maintain uniqueness.  Seems quite simple to implement.  I don't under stand the BOUND command, just need to spend some time with the books.

Thanks to you and everyone else for all the suggestions and helpful hints provided.  As soon as I have a debugged version of the CI script ready, I will make it available.

The idea of using the date/time stamp to generate a unique id/filename is
great but if you are concerned about duplicates (files created w/in the same
 min/second) then it might not ne kosher...

My idea is to use a "unique" filename server/command that uses a static
variable/counter to generate ... along the lines of this cmd file...
