Hi

you did a good choice, taking nettool. Unfortunately, you did not see the command DELNAME under NAMEADDR.

With this command followed by the name of the node DRGV1 you can remove the entry from the cache.
The network software will the get the name from the nsdir the next time it is requested.

The netcontrol update was not neccessary for this!!

Exapmple

:nettool
NETTOOL Version: B0509000
<snip>
RESOURCE CONFIG NAMEADDR PING STATUS NMDUMP
X25STAT X25CHECK IPCINT XPVAL XPPERF QVALNS
NSTEST LOOPINIT NSLOGON SOCKINFO filters
[1]>>>nameaddr
CACHE MAPPINGS ROUTING PATH filters
[2]NAMEADDR>>>cache
NAME DELNAME DELPATH LOCAL TOTALS
filters nodefilter sorting
>>>[5]NAMEADDR.CACHE>>>
[5]NAMEADDR.CACHE>>>delname axis01
Name to delete:AXIS01
AXIS01 deleted from path cache.
[6]NAMEADDR.CACHE>>>

Betreff: NSDIR - IP Mapping

Hello listers,

I have a network related question:

In the NSDIR file I had a printer Node Name configured as DRGV1.OEKV.WIEN mapped f.e. IP
Address 192.10.4.70. I then changed the mapping to 192.10.4.71, did an NETCONTROL
UPDATE=ALL;NET=LAN on the Hp3000 and also changed the address in the JetDirect card for
the printer. I then expected that I can print to both: the IP address and the Node Name
(by the way we use ESPUL as network printing solution).

But what worked with the IP address did not work with the Node Name. I then used NETTOOL
to look at the Node Names IP address - and guess what: it still showed me 192.10.4.71.

I always thought that NETCONTROL UPDATE=ALL can change these things?

Am I wrong?

TIA

Friedrich
