Don't know if anyone else has tried this, but we were bitten recently by it;

We 'smartened up' some of our apps to use dbinfo205 to get dataset capacity
info. We made a simple mod to try dbinfo205 first (to get capacity info) and
if that failed, use dbinfo202. The dbinfo returned array for mode 205 is
identical to mode202 except for the additional items returned for 205; one of
which is 'maximum capacity'... [another of which is a flag indicating if 'ddx
is enabled' (values of 1 or 0) but no further explanation].

Our problem was that if mode 205 was successful (which actually just means
that the machines' Image release 'supports' ddx) then we assumed that the
'maximum capacity' would always be the dataset's maximum capacity. Not so.

It appears that if the dataset is not enabled for ddx, then the value
returned in 'maximum capacity' for a call to dbinfo205 returns a '0'. Maybe
it's just me, but I would have assumed they would have been nice enough to
set it to the (non-ddx) 'maximum capacity' anyway. In any case, PLEASE update
the manuals to warn others that "if ddx is not enabled on the dataset, then
the 'maximum capacity' is meaningless and you should use the 'dataset
capacity' field instead". Not a major problem I suppose, but it sure caused us
some headaches...
