Just maybe this is where HP got the idea for their current co-existence
of MPE/Unix/NT strategy.
Here's my take from reviewing published material:
1. They really didn't have the time to re-architect the systems that were
flat-file based.
2. It seems to me the focus on their IS migration was to "get off the
mainframe", not necessarily "build the best application we can at this
time".
3. I would not be surprised to hear of them building the next versions based
on a Unix/NT platform.
I have opinions about whether #3 is good or bad. However, they are jumbled and
would be better discussed in a dialog format. This sure sounds like a good
topic to kick around while "hanging out" at HP World.
Besides, does anyone really think HP has it all together when it comes
to software development?
