WRT getting management investing in technologies, ZDNN interviewed "Open
source evangelist" Eric Raymond, who had this to say:
So my goal is -- and I don't think anyone in the [Linux] community is
arguing with this -- is to change the practices of the Fortune 500. And the
way I've been doing that is to by making a
stability-quality-reliability-cost- of-ownership business-risk case that's
specifically tuned to the Fortune 500.
Now you have to reach them directly, and I don't play golf with those guys.
(laughs)... So what I've been doing is going through the financial press,
the business press -- not the trade press. The guys I need to reach don't
read the trade press -- they don't care. So my metric for success was what
was Forbes saying, what was the Economist saying... what was the New York
Times saying.
