The laserjet 4L had a few design flaws, but the 4 and 4P are extremely
good and reliable printers . . . IMHO you made a good choice in
purchasing
it. That said, it seems that the rollers and/or gears which pull the
paper into
the output tray at the top of the printer are worn or stripped. We have
had
this happen to a few of our HP laserjets (we use laserjets exclusively)
and
were able to have them quickly and inexpensively repaired at a local
repair
shop.
The printer may be out of production, but is still a good printer which
is easily and inexpensively repaired.
