I tried a few tests (to generate errors):

   >>detach database
            ^
     Database name too long.
   >>detach skdj
     Root file does not exist.
   >>detach mdx01
     Database is not attached to any HP SQL DBEnvironment.
   >>detach editor
     Not a database root file
   >>detach $NULL
            ^
     Invalid database name.
   >>:file null = $NULL
   >>detach null
     File equates are illegal for database and database-access file
