I recall  - in the MPE/VE and earlier era - a date close to the one you
mention, but different.

That date is November 1, 1972, which I believe was the default date if you
did not specify one at boot time.

If I remember correctly, in those days you were required to supply a date
at system bootup (there was no non-volitile system clock as today), and if
the system operator instead hit the return key, the system was left with
the "default" date of November 1, 1972.

Needless to say, that did cause problems, so there were several different
flavours of contributed library programs, such as clkprog which let you
change the system date without requiring a reboot.
