HPDATE is 'read only' so you cannot set it.

The only way I was able to get it to return 0 was to use a command file
with a parm with the same name so that the parm takes precedence when
dereferenced.

<cmd file>
PARM HPDATE=0
echo mydate=!HPDATE

<output>
mydate=0

Some possible causes:

1. You have the above mentioned situation.

2. Maybe you are in MPEX and have a similar situation.

3. *Very improbable* but I have seen the CALENDAR intrinsic return 0 or
garbage intermittently because the processor card was going (had gone)
bad. Are you seeing any other date related problems?
