We will do the same for our main customer: shutdown all the services of our
processors but leave them powered on.
Reason:
* a power off and later power on may cause a short overload which may cause a
H/W defect.
* there is an UPS. So, if power will fail UPS starts and covers up to 30 min so
that the servers can be switched off then.
* it is expected that there is no power outage (but if so we will have orderly
stopped applications).

Best regards, Andreas Schmidt, CSC, Germany

Subject: SPU Plans for Rollover

Dear Listers,

We are a manufacturing site and have put together our end of the
year/rollover plan. There is one issue which seems to be open to debate:
whether or not to power off the 3K and 9K SPUs during the rollover. My
preference is to shut down applications but leave the hardware and OS
running.

Any thoughts on the pros/cons of leaving the systems up? What are your
sites planning?
