I was OK with the article, right up to the end:

system Microsoft used to organize data on disk drives in its older versions
of Windows and DOS

I fail to see how challenging this will make the world a better place,
freeing us from the burden of paying onerous royalties to Microsoft for all
the non-Microsoft uses of FAT.

I guess I should google "burn all gifs", and see how that battle is going. I
see that on the http://www.burnallgifs.com site, they still have a link to
the "Amazon boycott page at the Free Software Foundation site", which site
reads: "The FSF decided to end its boycott of Amazon in September 2002". And
the top news on burnallgifs home page is dated 20 June 2003. I'm glad I
hurried by.
