hmmm....: It does NOT work for me, on our 959 on 5.5 PP4. I get:
[1] ECS.MK50:SETVAR HPMSGFENCE 3

The variable value is out of range. (CIERR 8155)

.... if of course I start with HPMSGFENCE = 0..... I almost
stumbled on this one; first time I did:
[1] ECS.MK50:SETVAR HPMSGFENCE 1
[1] ECS.MK50:SETVAR HPMSGFENCE 2
before I did
[1] ECS.MK50:SETVAR HPMSGFENCE 3
.... at which point ERRORs and WARNings are turned off, so
you don't see that values > 3 are out of range.... :-)
.... anyway, if values > 3 work on Lee's machine, they must have
a patch above and beyond vanilla PP4 that we don't have...
