Cryptic enough subject line huh!

Those of you running Samba/iX along with Windows NT 4.0
clients need to be aware that when you apply Microsoft's Service
Pack #3, you will not be able to connect to any Samba based
services requiring a password (there is a work around though).
In a nutshell, Microsoft now defaults to using encrypted passwords
in the SMB protocol, and the current versions of Samba/iX only
handle 'clear text' (non-encrypted) passwords. To revert back
to using clear text passwords as the default, do the following:

Using REGEDIT32, go to the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system\currentcontrolset\services\rdr\parameters
Add a new DWORD type value of:
EnablePlainTextPassword
Give it a value of 1.
Exit REGEDIT32
Reboot the system.

You should once again be able to access your passworded Samba/iX sessions.

BTW, The actual error you receive before adding this value is:

\\server\sharename is not Accessible
The account is not authorized to login from this station.

At this point, I'm not sure what all of the ramifications are for doing
this outside of the obvious (your password can be clearly seen by
anyone with a packet sniffer who happens to pick your login up).
You can always delete this value and reboot again if something else
breaks. If anyone does find some other reason NOT to enable this,
please let me know.
