It's not much, but PC Magazine columnist John Dvorak mentions the 3000 as
his introduction to programming at

... in 1975 I was working for the government. I happened upon the HP3000
machine and began to program it. The first microcomputers came out around
then, and I got one as soon as I could, in late 1976.
