We use network printing, and in one case print to a software product that in
turn spools locally <<http://www.brooksnet.com/hp3000remoteprinting.html>>.
Recently, unnamed entities broke the configuration at the remote location,
and spool files accumulated in the spooler in an ACTIVE state, or so I am
told. At that time, the system console indicated "Output spooler, LDEV #230:
Received a command while outputting a file. Native Mode Spooler message
9021".
I have been asked if we can reasonably be notified automatically should this
problem recur. We have no third-party scheduling or spooling, nor do we have
MPEX. All that I can think to do is issue a LISTSPF command from the job
that prints, and check for CIERR values. Am I missing a better approach,
that does not involve purchasing a product designed for these needs?
