It's unfortunate, but very true!!!  History is filled with such events...
There have been numerous technically superior items which have died due to
non-technical and very illogical reasons.
 
I hate to invoke the old saying but, "Who has the gold, rules...".  If
upper management of companies were not demanding Unix and NT, then HP and
other companies would not be delivering.
