Well, Larry in an effort to boost myself out of the stone age I took a class
in C++. I programmed an application taking 4 years using C - made it DOS and
Unix compatible -
The class was too fast - sort of a "if it's Tuesday it must be Belgium" kind
of class. I understand the basic concepts (class, inheritance) but lack real
world experience. So if anyone has some C++ questions I'll be sure to read
those.
My feeling is that having taken a few of these classes the best people who
could be teaching - are out programming.
On the German - Ich kann nur ein bischen sprechen - I can speak only a
little - courtesy of the Army 20 years ago. I would think it is much harder
for a German to learn English. Too many conditional statements and
exceptional conditions ;-)
One other thing - a lament on computer buzzwords - the longer I stay at this
game the more I realize every company is talking about the same concepts -
different buzzwords.
We selected a product called Raima DB for our C Application - used to be
called db_Vista - and I selected it because it is a network data base very
similar to IMAGE which I knew so well. Well, I go to their class in Seattle
and the buzzwords! I finally decide the best way to learn is to create a
chart of Image terms and then the corresponding Raima terms. Then it was
easy ;-) Just like learning a new foreign language...
Bill
