Yesterday I added a DDS-2 DAT drive to my 980 to assist in data migration to
our new 969/200 which is still being installed. This is the first time I've
ever used a DDS drive on a 3000.

I did a test :STORE, and when it completed, the tape did not eject. I then
tried a test :VSTORE, and got a drive "not ready" condition. I had to eject
the tape and then re-insert it before I could do the :VSTORE. I was hoping for
the HP 9000 behavior where DDS drives rewind, do not eject, yet remain online.

RTFM reveals the HPDEVCONTROL intrinsic which would seem to have the ability to
put the drive back online without having to eject/re-insert. Is there some
HP-supplied utility that will call HPDEVCONTROL, or do I have to write my own?
I think I might remember mention of such a utility, but a search of SupportLine
and LaserRom were fruitless.

PS: I'm already aware of DEVCTRL.MPEXL.TELESUP which allows you to toggle
compression and ejection, but at least under the version of 5.0 I run does not
have an online/offline function.
