I just noticed the sockerr 64... does this happen after a timeout of more
than a few seconds? IOW, is this instantaneous, or does it take a minute or
three? If the former, than the server is rejecting the connection, probably
by some mechanism, such as inetd.sec. If the latter, than it's more likely a
network latency problem. This can be explored by pinging with larger packet
sizes, and noticing any abnormal delays or lossage.
I would be surprised if you got this error from an attempt to connect to a
system NOT running an ftp server. You can test this by deliberately trying
to ftp to your desktop, or a non-production system known NOT to run ftp.

Subject: FTP to Novell box on local network from HP3000
Gentle listers:
My HP3000 can FTP outside of the LAN(thanks to Denys B.). When I try to hit
a local box I get the following error. I can ping the Novell box from my
HP3000.
Transfer Protocol [A0008S33] (C) Hewlett-Packard Co. 1990
ftp> open 198.47.100.60
Cannot connect to host: 198.47.100.60 (FTPERR 9)
REMOTE ABORTED THE CONNECTION. (SOCKERR 64)
ftp>
What do I need to configure in the Novell box??
