/appl/java1.31/bin: java -version
java version "1.3.1.02"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.3.1.02-011206-02:17)
Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM (build 1.3.1 1.3.1.02-JPSE_1.3.1.02_20011206 PA2.0,
mixed mode)

either 32- or 64-bit mode. we haven't figured out yet how it get it to say
what's the default....or how to explicitly switch it. - d
