OK, I know, so what else is new?

Anyway, I changed some printers from DTC to network and users started
complaining that the ASSOCIATE command no longer worked. In fact, they were
receiving the error message "Associating this device (ASSOCIATE) requires
system manager's permission. (CIERR 3059)".

But, look here I say, the file that contains the device class <--> user
association (ASOCIATE.PUB.SYS) has not been modified. And I did not change
the class name, only the spooler and logical device number.

Apparently, though you would never know it by looking at the documentation,
when you specify an association with the ASOCTBL program it stores the
logical device number in ASOCIATE.PUB.SYS. "Refreshing" the table fixed the
problem.

One more reason why I hate ASOCTBL,
John Burke
