To Y2k-Watchers on the Web,

A recent article in the Albuquerque Journal North on Public Service
Company of New Mexico's Y2K preparedness missed the mark on accuracy
and unfortunately created questions in some folks' minds on PNM's
commitment to being ready for Y2K.

We have requested that the paper's editors correct or clarify the
misinformation they printed last week. In the meantime, here are the
facts:

 PNM is ready for the Y2k rollover. Like other utilities around the
country, we have invested substantial resources over the last few years
to identify all of our mission critical systems, test them for Y2k
readiness, remediate those that needed remediation, and then test again
to make sure they're ready for the New Year.

 Like most major utilities around the country, we reached a critical
goal last summer of having all of our mission critical systems ready
for the rollover.

 From our point of view, electric and gas service in our service
territory during the rollover should be as dependable as it is any
other day, but also still subject to weather-related problems, routine
equipment failure, etc.

I hope this clarifies any misunderstanding that may be lingering out
there. Questions can be directed to me at [log in to unmask]
