While I am far from being a LaserJet expert, I believe that "higher" levels
of PCL are not proper superset of the "lower" levels e.g. PCL5 or PCL6 may
no longer understand certain PCL2 escape sequences (ouch).

I don't know if LJ marketing druids will call this type of compatibility
forward or backward, but as I said, I'm not expert, just occasional user.
