drive, the SAMBA call in JINETD gives us an error....

Received call for: smbp tcp

(Passionate request follows)

Here we go again - someone placed read acknowledgements on their
messages.

We have now placed a filter in the Usenet gateway, that will
hopefully kill these off, and not be passed to Usenet, nor will they
be passed to the list should they come in from Usenet. These can be
ascertained with the string "Read:" or "READ:" in the subject header,
in the first five characters, followed by the original subject header
for which the message was responded to.

We have also found that there are some mail systems (Groupwise is
one) which can be configured to send a read acknowledgement
automatically when someone opens a message. I guess there's not a
whole lot that can be done about that, but if this applies to you,
and you have any influence with the netadmin (or you ARE the netadmin
:) - and a filter can be applied to the list's address, maybe these
can be squashed to the list.

PLEASE (again, this is a passionate request, not an order): Please,
Please, Please, turn off read acknowledgements on posts or messages
to the list. Most people see them as Winmail.dat files - and will
sure to stir the "attachments I cannot read" controversy again.

TIA,
Joe
