Hmm - who acquired who? That would usually answer the question, but I
digress..
Having worked with both machines, the 3000 is:
1. Easier to Learn and Use
2. Has a more robust database offering
3. Has better OLTP ratings than the 400
4. Has been around 25+ years (how long has the 400 been around?)
5. Dosen't have to change it's image every 18 months
That last one's sort of an "off the cuff" comment -- IBM needs to come up
with more uses for the 400 to try and generate new name sales... the latest
is "it's an E-Commerce Server!".
From a database perspective - TurboIMAGE|Image/SQL, as well as Allbase, are
both more robust than the OS400 (internal) or DB2/400 databases, and from
every customer one would speak to (since there are no recent benchmarks),
the 3000 handles online transaction processing faster, better and more
reliably than a 400.
Hope this helps some --- but if you need some reading material, you might
check the CSY site: http://www.hp.com/csy/main.html

Joe
