Can a SAMBA share be "customized" when viewed as a web page in Explorer?

It occurred to me that this could provide a quick and dirty way to state the
purpose of a SAMBA share, or list a URL where things are documented for that
share. The Customize this folder option in Explorer (I do have the Active
Desktop and IE5 on NT) allows this and more, if one is willing to wrangle
with MS's hypertext template file, folder.htt (a web search yielded only 45
hits). And, I've been able to get this to work locally, and on an NT server
share. But not in my SAMBA shares... I have a folder.htt, and I have
customized it. I even copied it locally as a sanity check (although perhaps
even trying to do this is quixotic), and my customizations work, locally.
But not in my SAMBA shares...
