My first thought is there is a issue between the users and the HP3000. When
this occurs, can you ping the HP3000? I would try this several times and
see if you get reliable replies. You can also set ping to go continuously
from a PC by using "ping -t address."

Also, are the users coming in by IP address or IP name?

Denys

Subject: [HP3000-L] Network instability

For a little over a week I have been getting a call between 12:00 and 1:00
am every morning with users complaining they cannot connect to our
production HP3000. Sure enough, when I attempt to log on my connection gets
timed out (reflection). If I make another attempt I randomly get a prompt
and enter the manager password, only to get timed out and lose the
connection again. I am able to log into our development HP3000 box and
dsline over, but the same thing happens, I get through a few commands and it
drops (however my connection to the development box remains intact).

We moved the cable to another port on our network switch, same thing. We
moved the cable over to a secondary NIC on the back of our box and still get
dropped connections. Our next step will be to change the cable but I'm not
very optimistic. Is there some network/IP table that's getting filled up? So
far our only resolution is to stop/start the network, then everything is
fine for about 24 hours or so, although we were able to get through Friday
night without a call.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
