I had the same type of problem when I tried to add a 2nd DDS-3 autochanger
onto the same bus as the 1st one. They refused to work on the same bus (and
I did check the SCSI ID's many times). I had HP replace both units twice to
no avail. I finally just moved the 2nd DDS unit to a different bus and all
works now. HP could not explain why this happened. I just wrote it off as
"one of those computer things" and moved on...

Subject: [HP3000-L] Tape drive problem:
I'm currently running a 987/150 system. Two days ago, I lost a DDS II DAT
Drive that is located in the system chassis disk cage. Luckily, for my back
up, I had a DDS I DAT drive mounted just below it.
I have since tried to replace the DDS II with a new DDS II (exact same DAT
with same jumper settings). Below are the "un"results. I'm not sure why I
am getting the trouble that I have here. Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks:
Hopefully these details can help figure out why the 2 tape drives
weren't happy when they were plugged in at the same time:
SCSI Bus: 52
Ldev 7: 52.0.0
Ldev 8: 8.0.7 (completely different bus)
Ldev 9: 52.1.0
Ldev 1: 52.6.0
Ldev 7 = DDS1
Ldev 9 = DDS2
Tests Performed:
1)With only Ldev 7 connected to the first block of the controller cable,
the device was Okay and recognized as Ldev 7
2)With only Ldev 9 connected to the first block of the controller cable,
the device was Okay but recognized as Ldev 7
3)With Ldev 7 connected to the first block and Ldev 9 connected to the
second
block
- 1st attempt... system came up, both drives showed configured but not
available
- 2nd attempt.... system hung after seeing the message "Path 52.0.0
configured on the system"
Currently... Only Ldev 7(DDS1) is connected and functioning
