The saga continues, I'm very determined to get this java going...

After creating all the sym links for the /bin directory I deleted all
the java stuff and did a re TAR from scratch. When I streamed the
jinstJDK.60.tar.Z it came up with the same errors as before.. a
lot of file not found such as..

RISC/green_threads/appletviewer
TAR.HPBIN.SYS: /usr/local/java/jdk1.2.2/bin/appletviewer: cannot set
mode: No such file or directory

A whole lot of  "PA-RISC/green_threads" errors.
Then after a bunch of good files I got some single errors here and
there throughout the stream, like...

x /usr/local/java/jdk1.2.2/jre/classes symbolic link to
/java/build/mpe/classes
TAR.HPBIN.SYS: /usr/local/java/jdk1.2.2/jre/classes: cannot set mode:
No such file or directory
TAR.HPBIN.SYS: write error on file "/SYS/PUB/JAVASUB": System call
error
chmod: file "/lib/libc.sl": No such file or directory
chmod: file "/lib/libm.sl": No such file or directory
chmod: file "/usr/lib/libsocket.sl": No such file or directory
:XEQ /bin/chmod "755 /lib/libsvipc.sl"chmod: file "/lib/libsvipc.sl":
No such file or directory



If it would help to see the whole log file let me know and I can send it.....

After that finished I decided that maybe I could do with out those
PA-RISC files, I attempted to compile a simple program and got a bunch
of unresolved externals.

I got the script for that from a link which was sent to me. I tried to
run the script which is supposed to solve this but it terminated...

$ SCRIPTXL

Then it exits back to the prompt.
Line 40 in the script is:

I'm thinking if there was a problem with the script other people would
have said things by now and the script would be modified. So I'm sure
it's a problem with my system. I figure now would be a good time to
restore the HFS files from the system tape. Kind of start from a new
base which is known to be good.

I fished out the tape labeld MPE/IX 6.0  Prod/SubSys. I looked at the
files on the tape and I have

I read some instructions on how to restore the HFS from the allegro site:

 1. Restore the following from the FOS tape:
    restore *t;@.hp36431.support,i0036431.usl.sys;create;show
 2. :STREAM I0036431.USL.SYS
 3. After I0036431 finishes,
    :STREAM SUPACCT.PUB.SYS

 All of the HP-supplied hfs files will be restored, and the
 directory structure and permissions set to the defaults.


The problems with this is that it was written for 5.5 which would
explain while the file names don't match up, or I have the wrong tape.
I do know that when I look in the support directory there is a hp36431
file,but that could be a leftover from our 5.5 days so I'm not sure if
I should follow these directions or find updated directions..

Also it says that these steps are for restoring and setting default
permissions. I'm not totally sure if I want to do that. I suppose I
can do this but add a keep option on the restore so it only loads back
files that i'm missing and doesn't overwrite anything else? Would this
be a wise option?

Ps. I appreciate all your replies and for your patients. I really
would like to get this going, it just seems to be one roadblock after
another.. HP phone support would come in handy right about now.. If
only I had the company credit card.. lol
