At some point next year, I will be looking at several challenges.
Currently, we have a Series 927LX with all internal printers/terminals
hooked up serially via DTC and the only outside connection happening is
a mux-modem connection to another location to run a terminal and couple
printers remotely. We are slowly coming to depend on email more and
more in our business, including some EDI transactions coming in as file
attachments.

I would like to look at some of the following:
 - Getting Netmail/3000 to do our own email, rather than depending on an
ISP
 - Being able to browse the Internet from workstations

I figure we will need to do some of the following:
 - Establish an internet connection using our HP3000
 - Purchase larger HP3000 if the existing system won't handle the
   increase in workload
 - Wire our office for a LAN using the LAN that the DTC's are hooked up
to.
 - Eliminate dumb terminals and at least purchase smart terminals that
can
   operate on a LAN
 - Learning about these packages such as Apache that are used to
facilitate
internet access on the 3000. Going from using the Internet and
facilitating
access to the internet is a leap for me.

So, my question is this. Starting (in many ways) completely from
scratch, is there a primer that exists that would take me step by step
through what needs to be done to access the internet and do email via
the 3000?
