While I don't remember about five items on the list (which still makes me
older than dirt), where my wife grew up (Thousand Oaks, CA), the exchange
was small enough that you only had to dial the last four digits to reach
anyone in town!

Lordy, lordy, lordy. You're a lot younger than I am (although I didn't know
that :-). My home phone number in Yuma, AZ was SUnset 3-94xx and my first
number here in Las Cruces, where I came to go to college in 1963, was
JAckson
6-6842. The nation didn't change over to all numbers until I was about 25
years old.

What's worse, both numbers still work!

PS: If you dial the Yuma number, you'll get my mother, and that's the reason
that I blanked out the last two digits. But if you dial the Las Cruces
number, you'll get AICS Research. It's now one of our unlisted, in-line
rotated outside lines, but it certainly rings.
