If buzzwords and hot trends drive buying decision, an assumption I do not
dispute, then the HP3000 can still play on equal footing.
The Gartner Group recently called the HP3000 the * "most open system." *
Use that line.
Unfortunately Glenn Koster's comment that HP would rather push the 9000
solution is true. So we are back to square one. If the company, with all the
evidence in hand, won't push/market the 3000 solution, what can we do?
We are standing up as a vocal minority. We are making suggestions. I can
sing the praises of the 3000 as well as anybody. I'll sing in the choir or
do a solo. This however is advocacy not marketing. Only the products
manufacturer can market the product.
HP has to long played upon the loyalty of the 3000 users. They think that
that loyalty will keep the market viable. They seem to hope that our loyalty
to the 3000 will spill over to the 9000 when we are forced into a UNIX
solution. Maybe it will, at least we'll know the CEs that come into our
shops now and say, "Gee, I'm an HPUX guy. I haven't used MPE in years."
Keep the pressure on.
