Hello Tony,

Thank you for the help.

I have got your CICATERR file containing the above fragments about CIERR
messages. I am still processing it. I want to merge it with the original
CICAT.PUB.SYS file.
Problems: The original length of CICAT + the length
of CICATERR > 32000 lines, so I cannot use the Join File commmand of
HPEDIT. Does the poor EDITOR allow more than 32000 lines? Are the line
numbers important to the HELP command. I see that I must delete the \ALL
line from the end of the original CICAT before appending your CICATERR.
What are the syntax rules for the CICAT file? Is there any program on the
HP, or parameter of the HELP command, which defines the input file of it?
If there exists one then I need not merge the two files, and I may retain
the original CICAT and your CICATERR in separated files.

I wrote a pascal program, merged the two files. Then HELP rejected the new
input file. Because CICAT must be labelled. It contains all commands
having desciption in some format in the file labels.
THAT'S WHY THE HELP IS QUICK. THE LABELS SERVE AS AN INDEX OF KEYWORDS.

Gurus, what is the MPE/V classic format of the CICAT labels?

                                        Regards
                                             Frank

There are 3 kinds of programming errors: syntactical, semantical and mystical.
The programmers have to suck up the users just as much as absolutely necessary.
