In tireless pursuit of confusion maximization, HP consistently assigns
one part number to the bare drive mechanism, and a completely
different number to the assembled unit of a mechanism in an enclosure
with power supply, connectors, etc.

> DDS-1 drive that it is replacing? Hardware compression is off.

Rated throughput (sustained transfer rate for uncompressed data):
  DDS (a.k.a. DDS1): 11 Megabytes/minute
  DDS2: 22
  DDS3: 60
  DLT2000: 72 Megabytes/minute, 1.2 Megabytes/sec
  DLT4000: 1.5 Megabytes/sec
  DLT7000: 5
  DLT8000: 6
  AIT 3
  AIT-2: 6
  Exabyte Mammoth 8mm: 3

You'll frequently find that the higher-speed drives can accept data
faster than your system can deliver it.
