Solution provided from member of HP9000-L

I adapted the Ftpin script file to cater for the differences in the
HP3000 and HP9000 ftp clients

cat TEMP

verbose
open 172.30.103.114
user sw/hpdown password
ascii
put TEMP hpftpdev/general/TEMPTONY.TXT
quit

Then invoked ftp client using the following wonderful unix command
(removing ftp.log and ftperr.log first)

cat TEMP | ftp -n >>ftp.log 2>ftperr.log

For anyone not yet familiar with unix (there's a lot to learn).

(1) cat is equivalent to print to stdout
(2) but the | means the output from the print is piped into ftp client
(3) the -n is a switch to turn off autoprompting in ftp
(4) the output from the FTP session is sent to two files ftp.log and
ftperr.log, (stdout and stderr)

The poster also suggested merging ftplog and ftperr using the
alternative below, but I still have to experiment with this variant.

cat file | ftp >ftp.log 2>&1

Hello. I'm new to this list (I'm starting a migration from the HP3000).

And I found a discussion in the archives on automating FTP transfers in
HP- UX.

The previous discussion commented that HP-UX's FTP client did not appear
to support the exitonerror command, which may only be supported on the
HP3000. I have a similar migration question.

On the HP3000 we automate our ftp sessions by first preparing a short
script and then feeding that script to the FTP client's STDIN and
feeding the output from the FTP session to another file (in the example
below MYFTPOUT.

eg.

:print myftpin
EXITONERROR
OPEN rhs-data-1.sw.corp
USER sw/hpdown bondage
TIMEOUT 30
ASCII
PUT TEMP hpftpdev\general\TEMP.TXT
EXIT
