Many of you are usually concerned about the resources a 4GL utilizes.
Especially during a execution of a report. Take a look at the
http://www.3kworld.com/ the "Tech Paper of the Week" this discusses Report
Server solutions to eliminate the resource meltdown of these type of
application impacts to your OLTP environment.

Subject: Re: Opinions on SpeedWare

These are my opinions only:

1. What is your overall impression with the product as compared to
other 4GLs? * All 4GLs have similar problems. They lack the flexibility of
lower level languages. They are slower. They are expensive. Speedware is no
worse or better.

2. How well does it support web-enabled requirements? * Speedware has their
AutoBahn (sp?) web product.

3. Where do you see SpeedWare for the long-term? Is it an in-demand
product? Or, is it being superceded by other products? If the later,
which products are replacing it? * Who knows where midrange CPU 4GL
products will be in the future? Many shops are doing their
Ad Hoc reporting in on the C/S side. Do what is

4. Are SpeedWare programmers a difficult to find? *Most of my Speedware
Programmer friends complain of lack of jobs on the market.
Though Cognos programmers are more plentiful does that mean that they will
meet your needs?
5. Is there anything else I should consider? *There are plenty of good
COBOL and FORTRAN programmers available. Even if it takes little bit of
extra time it takes to write a 3gl program you may have a better ROI.

Thanks for your help!

LuAnne
