I can tell just by this statement that you have never had an HP LJ 4500!  It
*really* takes a long time to warm up!

Actually, printing from a PC (even using the JetDirect box) is not slow at
all.

It looks like Curt hit the nail on the head when he wrote:

since that is exactly what we are seeing (i.e., 2 ppm).
